Day Sixty Six of My Health Journey

Wow, it's been a busy week - one of studying psychology 8 - 12 hours a day. School is like having a full time job - worse even sometimes I think. But I have been studying about the brain this week - the biology of psychology, and I have REALLY enjoyed it. I love biology and seeing how the body works. You all should know that by now. :) I have learned alot of stuff this week, and several thing that might interest you, such as:

  • Acetylcholine (ACh) is the chemical that makes our muscles contract. A black widow's venom is ACh, and when an excess of ACh enters your blood stream it causes violent muscle contractions.
  • Tribes who use poisonous darts use a poison called curare. It is a toxin that blocks ACh and therefore paralyzes you, because muscles are deemed unable to contract.
  • Botox is actually botulin in small doses. Botulin is highly neurotoxic, and is found in canned foods, which has not been prepared properly. It causes botulism, which leads to paralysis. Therefore, what botox does, while smoothing wrinkles, is paralyzes the muscles in your face.
I love learning little facts like that, even though none apply to me, but I just have a love of biology and nutrition, in general!

I haven't been eating too healthy this week. Near the end of the month our funds begin to deplete, and so we have to eat more cooked foods than raw. I still am 25 pounds down though, and my husband is now 21 pounds down. He's gaining on me!  :)

Here's what we've eaten the past few days. I don't show every single thing, because I am not going to photograph every time I eat a banana, LOL, but I do show the main things that we eat. Hopefully next month we can get more raw into out diet. I am ready to speed this journey up a bit to get to my goal. . . though when I reach my goal I am not going to stop with the raw. It's a lifestyle, not a diet. The main reason I am doing it is not to lose a few pounds, but to gain health. One day, eventually, I hope to be 100% raw.

I've had black beans, macaroni and bread...

Photobucket

Scrambled eggs, fried mushrooms,  tomatoes, peppers and bread...

Photobucket

Fresh juice...

Photobucket

One night we had a roasted chicken with plantains and carrots. (This is deserving of a few photos.)

I had more black beans.

More chicken and plantains with rice...

Photobucket

One day just plantains and rice...

Photobucket

Scrambled eggs, tomatoes and plantains...

And for breakfast today we had a fried egg and a roll.

Photobucket

We've had more juice in between than I have photographed too, and several bananas. And WAY TOO MUCH bread! I feel miserable when I eat bread,  but it's the thing that I most love. :(

I have some bad news! I have misplaced my little food additive book, so  no new page today. I'll find it soon through. It's just been crazy with all these psychology studies!

Day Sixty Two of My Health Journey, Food Additives

Well, today I am 25 pounds lighter than I was June 23rd, and my husband is 20 pounds lighter! We are both so happy! May the momentum pick up even further! We were on a plateau for almost a month... me fluctuating between 18 and 20 pounds and him fluctuating between 15 and 18 but now it's gone and these last 5 pounds have just seemed to melt off with ease!

Here's what I ate yesterday...

Some black beans that I had cooked. When they are soaked and cooked they turn red. This is about 1/2 cup or so. I just ate enough to get rid of a little hunger pang I had.

Photobucket

For supper we had scrambled eggs, toast, fried peppers and mushrooms and a banana.

Photobucket

For snack we had 1/2 of a banana and split these few grapes.

Photobucket

This morning we had juice from 6 carrots, 2 apples, a lime, a clove or garlic, a cucumber and a pepper - and I put a kiwi in mine - hubby's allergic.

Photobucket

Photobucket

I also had a banana for lunch.

That's been it for yesterday and so far today. My appetite has grown less over the past week, which is a good thing.

Here's your next page for your food additive folder. Sorry I can't say too much. Psychology has me psyched out, LOL.

DaySixty of My Health Journey, Food Additives

Wow! It's been a few days. School started back today, but I started last week, and am so happy that I did because I got so far ahead, and now mostly have to only concentrate on my psychology class. The other class is theology, and is like my fourth or fifth theology class, so most of it is review.

Let me see if I can remember what all I have eaten. I can't possibly put a time with the foods, so just let me put the photos here.

A grilled cheese sandwich...

Photobucket

I had a lot of plums! Yum!!

Photobucket

I tried to make some peach preserves, but the recipe I followed did not turn out right. She said to chop the peaches up small and they would become mushy. Next time I will puree them, but, still, they were delicious! My husband and I rarely have sweets anymore, so this was our occasional sweet treat.

Photobucket

Photobucket

For breakfast one day we had an egg and toast, and a half of an orange.

Photobucket

I had a pear, a plum and some peas chopped up together.

Photobucket

Spaghetti (made from bow tie pasta) and a roll - pasta and sauce only - no meat...

Photobucket

Kiwi, pear and a plum...

Photobucket

Chicken and mashed potatoes...

Photobucket

More plums...

Photobucket

Another sweet treat. The small Italian plums were rather tart, so I put some sugar in them and cooked them.

Photobucket

An orange and a half of a banana...

Photobucket

I had a few pastrami sandwiches...

Photobucket

More orange...

Photobucket

Some toast...

Photobucket

and some brown rice...

Photobucket

As far as the bus shelter they broke down last week, they have replaced it, but still have more to do.

Photobucket

Photobucket

There was some kind of problem at the pizzaria across the street and three fire trucks came one night...

Photobucket

And some of you may know that I love spiders! As I ate one night I saw a U haul outside with a spider on it. It made my night! My husband and I got a big kick out of that, because this Hawaiian spider called the Smiley Face Spider or, more scientifically, Theridion grallator is one of my favorite spiders.

That's it for the excitement here! In good news, I have lost 23 pounds now! I am past the plateau! Yay! I can't wait to go down some more! It's a great feeling to lose (release) unwanted pounds! :)

Here's the next page for your food additive folder.

Love you!

Day Fifty Nine of My Health Journey, Food Additives

Well today I am tee minus 20 pounds and counting. I finally broke my plateau, but tomorrow I suspect I will be at 20 pounds again. You see, we had sandwiches again, and tomorrow I promised my husband that I would make him some peach preserves with toast. Tonight we are planning on having a grilled cheese sandwich, as well. I wonder how many pounds of weight loss that will cost us!

Today didn't start out good for me. There were people outside working. That wasn't what woke me up, however. It was my husband. He came and got in the bed at 8:15 and told me that there were people outside that had awoken him. I sleepily said, "What". He said, "They are breaking down the bus stop." Teenagers often come bu here and hit the glass part where the advertisements are, trying to break it; however, they never can. I think it's Plexiglas. So I asked my husband if he meant that the kids were attempting to vandalize it again. He replied, "No, it's some department." So I got up out of bed, and here's what I saw.

Photobucket

Even though that did not wake me, it made it difficult to return to a sleep state, nevertheless, I went back to bed, and when I woke up the second time, I found this.

Photobucket

Anyway, it's kind of been a sleepy day for me because of that. My sleep was also broken up due to some telemarketer calling.

Anyway, regarding our meals, Monday we had a grilled sandwich...

Photobucket

Some plums and green peas cut up together...

Photobucket

A baked potato with blue cheese dressing and some spices...

Photobucket

and I had some cherries on between that I did not photograph.

Tuesday we had a smoothie, which I didn't photograph, and then later in the day my husband made some very good chicken noodle soup. I couldn't decide which photo looked best...

my husband's in the Sabbath china (Styrofoam bowl)...

Photobucket

or mine...

Photobucket

For snack later we shared a large bowl of grapes.

Photobucket

The babies also had grapes.

Photobucket

Today, Wednesday, we had a smoothie for breakfast, made from one banana, one orange, one peach, one small yellow pepper, four small plums and some grapes (and the filtered water - about six ounces is what I always put).

Photobucket

It looked very pretty and purplish.

Photobucket

For lunch we had a chicken sandwich on whole-wheat. It tasted kind of like a chicken salad sandwich.

Photobucket

We also had a small bowl of left over chicken noodle soup, which I did not want to be redundant and photograph again. Later on, as metioned above, we will have another grilled cheese sandwich, and I will make toast and peach preserves for breakfast, which I will share on my next post.

Here's the next page of your booklet on food additives.

Photobucket

Love you all - thanks for reading!

Kimberly ♥
